Copyright Statement

Calibre recordings and copyright explained:

Prior to 2002, we applied directly to the rights holder to gain written permission to record a print book into audio in order that our members could continue to enjoy the “Freedom to Read”.

On the 19 May 2014, Statutory Instrument No 1384 Copyright and Rights in Performances (Disability) Regulations 2014 came into force.  Calibre Audio Library operates under Section 31B “Making and supply of accessible copies by authorised bodies” for the personal use of disabled persons.

When we consider adding any book to our library the regulations prohibit the recording of those that are already available unabridged in audio. If an audio version is available, we have agreements with some publishers and audio suppliers to purchase a commercial copy from them for our library. We only record books if they are not available in audio at that time.
