Useful Resources

If you have a will it is important to review it regularly to ensure that it still reflects your wishes and your current circumstances. For most people their primary concern is to ensure that family and friends are provided for but after doing this you may also wish to make a gift to Calibre.

Codicils

This can often be done simply and inexpensively by adding a clause known as a codicil. A codicil is like an appendix which needs to be signed, witnessed by two non-beneficiaries and kept with the original will. Please do not amend an existing will yourself as this could make it invalid.

You can download a codicil form. We recommend consulting your solicitor before completing this form.

If you have not made a will then we strongly recommend that you do so with the help of your solicitor.

Types of Legacy and sample wordings

Your gift to Calibre can take one of two main forms. It is important to consider each option carefully and select the one that’s right for you.:

A Residuary Legacy – is a gift of the remainder or a percentage of your estate after all other legacies have been made and any debts cleared. This kind of gift is useful if you don’t know what you will have to leave. Residuary legacies are a popular way to remember Calibre as they keep up with inflation, helping your gift go further toward helping our members.

A Pecuniary Legacy – a gift of a fixed sum of money. If you have family or other people who you want to receive the bulk of your estate, you may prefer to leave Calibre a pecuniary legacy. However the effects of inflation may mean that the real value of the legacy could be less than you intended unless you review your will regularly.

You can also leave property such as a house, jewellery or stocks and shares.

We welcome legacy gifts, whether large or small, and your gift will make a real difference to our members.

With the support of over 200 volunteers, we make the best use of every penny we receive.

You may also be please to learn that as Calibre is a registered charity, any gift you make is free of inheritance tax.

If you would like to include Calibre in your Will, please ask your solicitor to use the following words:

For a share of your estate: I give all/a share of (please state a fraction /percentage) of the residue of my estate absolutely to Calibre Audio Library of New Road, Weston Turville, Aylesbury, Bucks, HP22 5XQ, Registered Charity Number 286614, for its charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper officer shall be full and sufficient discharge to my executors.
