National Reading Group Day 2019

National Reading Group Day

12 June 2019

National Reading Group Day is run by The Reading Agency, in partnership with the Booksellers Association and takes place on Saturday 15th June in celebration of reading groups and the positive effect that these groups have on their members. Libraries and booksellers across the country will be running events, displays and sessions on running and starting a reading group. The benefits of being part of a reading group have been widely discussed including promoting social interaction and sharing the love of books and reading.

Calibre supports over fifty book groups many of whom are based in public libraries. Our service enables groups to borrow multiple digital copies of the same book in audio so that everyone can enjoy the book and discuss it together. Groups can choose from a list of titles in the designated reading group collection including best sellers, classic novels, modern fiction and popular non-fiction covering a wide range of reading tastes. There is a yearly subscription fee for this service which is £18 per person per year including VAT.

We also offer a three month free trial for all new groups to help while the groups are being established and to make sure that the service works for the group.

We are constantly updating the list of books that groups can choose from and we encourage suggestions from book groups too. We have just added five more titles to the book group collection which are:

Other People’s Children by Joanna Trollope

Big Stone Gap by Adriana Trigiani

The Snow Garden by Rachel Joyce

The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell

Fillets of Plaice by Gerald Durrell

We are also celebrating National Reading Group Day by launching two helpful documents with advice for setting up a book group and a list of generic questions that you can use in your group if you need some conversation starters. These can be found on our Group Membership page here.
