Good Omens

Good Omens Are Coming…

30 May 2019

The long awaited TV adaptation of Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett hits Amazon Prime tomorrow! It is a joint venture by Amazon Prime and the BBC and is due to be screened on BBC 2 later in the year. Neil Gaiman has adapted the book for TV so that it stays true to the original story.

The series will feature David Tennant as Crowley a carefree, self-centred demon and Michael Sheen as Aziraphale a cautious, fussy angel with a love of rare books. These two make an unlikely team when it looks like the end of the world is actually on its way and someone appears to have misplaced the antichrist. With the forces of good and evil gathering and the four bikers of the apocalypse hitting the road it’s a race against time to find the antichrist and maybe, just maybe save the world in the process.

The book is funny, engaging, and a true example in the art of writing a book which has the reader saying “just one more chapter then I’ll put it down”. It is slightly wacky in places but you would expect nothing less from Gaiman and Pratchett and would have been disappointed otherwise. It is a rip roaring masterpiece of fun with a great age old story at its heart – the battle of good and evil.

If you’ve not discovered books by Neil Gaiman or Terry Pratchett yet then you’re in for a treat. Individually as authors they are exceptional storytellers but combine the two and they are a powerhouse of truly original, imaginative minds. Whether you catch the TV series or listen to the book don’t let it pass you by, this is fantasy for people who say they don’t read fantasy and you can borrow Good Omens from Calibre’s library (10201).
