Scare yourself silly with a spooky story from the Calibre Library this Halloween!

One book that’s causing a stir amongst TV fans is The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. According to posts on Twitter, the ten-part Netflix adaptation is causing a spate of fainting and general terror in many viewers - not a response we were aware of when we added it to the Calibre Library back in 2013. Perhaps our members are made of sterner stuff!

Another much-talked about book is The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell, described by some as a Victorian supernatural thriller. The story begins as newly widowed Elsie is sent to her late-husband’s dilapidated country estate for the duration of her pregnancy…
