The Midnight Line

Join in With the Richard and Judy Summer 2018 Book Club

14 May 2018

The Richard and Judy Book Club is back this summer with eight titles featuring a mixture of familiar and less well-known names. Lee Child has been picked with his twenty-second Jack Reacher novel and Erin Kelly’s latest thriller also makes the list. Susie Steiner has been selected again with the second book in her detective series featuring Manon Bradshaw.

The list also includes the new book by Dinah Jeffries. It is set in Ceylon in 1935 and is the story of the daughter of a successful British gem trader and her husband, a couple who on the surface seem to have it all but actually are longing for a child. Described as having ‘Echoes of The Secret History and The Talented Mr Ripley’ by the Sunday Times, Elizabeth Day’s fourth novel has been chosen too. This is a story of betrayal, privilege and hypocrisy, set in the heart of the British establishment. The summer read selections are rounded off with titles by Julie Cohen, Harriet Evans and Celeste Ng.

Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan began their book group on their television show on Channel 4 before moving it to the digital online channel Watch, then finally teaming up with retailers W H Smith in 2010. It has been the platform for many aspiring authors to showcase their books and has helped them to become household names. Richard and Judy have in recent years taken to writing fiction themselves with six novels published between them.
