World Book Day

Celebrate Books and Reading on World Book Day

27 February 2018

Thursday 1st March is World Book Day which is a celebration of books and reading that is acknowledged in over one hundred countries.

The main aim of World Book Day in the UK and Ireland is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to purchase a book of their own. As part of this, millions of book tokens are sent out to school children where they can get any of the titles chosen for this year’sWorld Book Day for free. Alternatively, they can get money off of any book of their choice. Among the titles available for free are “Paddington Turns Detective and Other Funny Stories” by Michael Bond, “The Bolds Great Adventure” by Julian Clary, “Oi Goat!” by KesGray and “Brain Freeze” by Tom Fletcher.

Lots of children are asked to go to school on World Book Day dressed as a character from a story so if you look out of your window on Thursday morning and see lots of Harry Potters and Alices in Wonderland walking down your street you’ll know why!

World Book Day is all about sharing stories and encouraging a love of reading; keeping in the spirit of this here are some children’s titles in the Calibre Audio Library for you to enjoy or share with another friend or family member.
