Calibre is my lifeline

International Women's Day - Celebrating our Calibre Women

8 March 2017

It's International Women's Day so today we're celebrating our female Calibre staff and volunteers and all the work they do for our charity. Here's a selection of some them!

Becci from our Fundraising Department who oversees our appeals and is also a Supermum of 4.

Brenda - library volunteer and narrator who has recently celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary.

Kim - our longest serving member of staff who answers our members' library queries.

Carol is our Audio Production Manager whose tasks include preparing discs from live files for our duplicating machines. A keen photographer - you'll find many of her photos on our website -  she loves birds and nature.

Liz Clarke - Head of Fundraising and Marketing - game for anything that will raise funds to provide our much valued service to our 15,000 members. Anything dog-related Liz is your woman.

Chrissie works in the library in a variety of roles including sorting the Royal Mail yorks full of returned books from members as well as preparing the kits for our events across the country. She has a fab collection of wild and wacky earrings.

Fay from our Membership Services Team taking a break from calls.

Grace Dives who has narrated over 200 books for Calibre.

Emma - Head of Literature and Audio Book Production and self-proclaimed book worm.

Multi-tasker Helen is our Director's Executive Assistant and Membership Services Support; someone has got to keep Mike in check!

Monica McMullen - Calibre Founder and former member of wartime SOE.

Jane can usually be found with her headphones on checking the recordings sent in by our volunteer professional narrators. But when it's all hands on deck she helps with our Christmas mailings in a variety of subtle festive outfits.

Carol from our Fundraising team who also gives talks about Calibre and attends events across the country. She also makes a mean vegan chocolate cake.

Julie from our Membership Services team who confesses although she has always been an avid reader since joining Calibre even more books have found their way onto her bedside table.

Compulsive reader Juliet, who has volunteered for Calibre for 6 years, chooses Tolstoy's War and Peace as her favourite book.

Janet from our Editorial department keeps a processing eye on the books being recorded for our library from purchasing/recording to their journey onto our shelves. A keen cyclist one of her main jobs is avoiding the increasing number of potholes on her way to work.

Jane is a retired teacher and has volunteered in the library for over 5 years.

Christine ( the one without the moustache) from the library has worked for Calibre for over 26 years.

Kirstin heads up our Membership Services team helping members with all their queries. Although she is of Welsh heritage she is also a keen Francophile.                                           .

Denise our Editorial Co-ordinator from our Welsh contingent liases with our volunteer narrators from behind a massive mountain of books always on her desk.

Jill, seen here celebrating her birthday, looks after the Events and Fundraising Admin keeping the team in order in her inimitable, unflappable way.

Calibre patron, author Anne Fine OBE FRSL, a keen supporter of our work who has recorded several of her books for the library.

Linda - Head of Library Operations with many of our female (and male) library staff who process the 1,800 books we send out each day. We all love Linda's flare for clothes (and when she's not looking the grapes from her ever present fruit bowl).

More of our Membership Services team (past and present)  - Sharon, Teresa, Karen and Kim who help members chose their books, answer queries and sent our information buoyed by copious amounts of tea and biscuits.
