Synopsis
Grace Parkes has a stillborn illegitimate child and when she and her sister have to leave their flat, torn down in the Victorian slum clearances,she struggles to scrape a living selling watercress. She falls into the clutches of the unscrupulous Unwin family, who run a funeral parlour, and then uncovers a plot to defraud her sister and herself.
