We like to say thank-you to Sovereign Health Charitable Trust for their generous donation of £1,000 helping us support our service for our Bradford members. Over the past 7 years the Charitable Trust has donated in excess of £4 million to good causes - essentially either local organisations that improve the health and wellbeing of people in Yorkshire or national health related charities, particularly where there is a clear benefit to people in the Yorkshire area.

We have a selection of Yorkshire-based stories in our library which are popular with our members. There are a number of titles by our patron Gervase Phinn including his latest book The Little Village School (Catalogue no. 9007) and James Herriot’s Every Living Thing (4489). If you enjoy crime fiction check out Reginald Hill’s famous characters Dalziel and Pascoe in A Clubbable Woman (9181) or Peter Robinson’s Inspector Banks in All the Colours of Darkness (8423).

We can’t talk about Yorkshire without mentioning the Brontes. Anne Bronte draws on her own experience as a governess in Agnes Grey (3535) and her sister Charlotte’s most famous work follows the eponymous heroine and her tortured love for Edward Rochester in Jane Eyre (7377). Whitby, recently featured on the BBC’s Countryfile series, is central to Paul Magrs Never the Bride (8599) and Bram Stoker’s Dracula (4878). In the story the Russian schooner Demeter crashes into the pier under Whitby’s East Cliff and a huge dog leaps down onto English soil. It was known than vampires could transform themselves into many forms; finally the evil Count Dracula had arrived in England.
