Calibre, coffee and cakes
20 June 2012
If you have run a coffee morning to raise funds for charity you will know it can take a fair amount of organisation.
Calibre Audio Library member, Janet from Ayrshire, runs an annual coffee day each June with her doors open from 10 in the morning until late at night. This year she has raised £500 for Calibre but as she explains it takes a bit of preparation.
" I decided to run a coffee day to raise money for Calibre back in 2004, the charity's 30th anniversary. I begin preparing months ahead and this year made 60 pots of marmalade to sell alongside cakes and knitted goods that people bring. I don't send out official invitations; I tell friends who tell their friends and people pop in all day and have a good chat over coffee and cakes. This month 70 people came with many sitting out in the garden which always looks colourful this time of year. I really love my Calibre books, especially hospital and romantic stories which I listen to on my Daisy player, and this is a way of showing my appreciation."
Janet admits she is a bit pooped by the evening but enjoys a large fish supper with her neice to round off a worthwhile day.
