For those of you that have been enjoying the BBC's series on Chatsworth House we have a range of books that will provide some background and, with the last episode being broadcast tonight, that extra glimpse at the history of the Cavendish family. The Bachelor Duke (Catalogue No. 3291) is a wonderful biography of the eventful life of the 6th Duke of Devonshire by James Lees-Milne. Another biography, probably now better known for the film it inspired is Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire (5406) which tells the story of Georgiana Spencer as leader of fashionable society and her own personal suffering. In Tearing Haste brings to life the correspondence between Deborah, Duchess of Devonshire and the writer and war hero Patrick Leigh Fermor, edited by Deborah's sister, Charlotte Mosley.

We then have a range of books by Deborah, Duchess of Devonshire herself; Wait For Me! Memoirs of the Youngest Mitford Sister tells the story of 'Debo', her family, and her life as wife to Andrew Cavendish, the 11th Duke of Devonshire, in her own words. We also have two new additions to our library with Counting My Chickens and Home to Roost which both provide a rich background to family, friends and life at Chatsworth from Deborah's personal diaries.

These books should transport you deep into the Derbyshire countryside for many months to come.
